Vingt-huit kilometres (17 miles… and a bit…)

Just photos today from my route yesterday. More than 17 miles, but not quite 18…

Yesterday was slow. And tough. And it hurt. But I’m not sore today, so I guess that’s the main thing. And it’s all about covering the distance, right? Getting your body used to the pain and the emptiness in your muscles, and pushing on through…

The first 11 miles felt fairly easy, but I really had to dig in for the final few miles. And at the end, I was struggling just to put one foot in front of the other.

Quite a lot of off-road again today, but the views kept me going. And my iPod.

Luckily, Jan had taken the kids off for the day, so I not only got to rest afterwards, I got to lie down in bed and read a book!

Talked through the rest of my training with Jan last night. He was all for me doing a couple of 20 milers and a 23 miler. I reminded him that I’m not expecting to run this marathon, or race it… just survive!

Anyway… 18 miles next week. Bungay Half the week after… then possibly a 20 miler… and we’ll go from there.

    • Thank you šŸ™‚ I kind of felt a double pressure to finish as j had taken the kids off for the day. If I didn’t finish, I could’ve/ shouldve spent the day with the family! Thanks though šŸ™‚ it hurt! (I think your 18 miler was rather faster… šŸ˜‰ )

  1. Well done! Those long runs take so much out of you. I think you’re right about not doing too many. Getting to the start line healthy is the main priority. I’ve never run over 20 in prep for any of my marathons. I know the last 10k will never be pretty but I also know that having got that far I’ll def make it to the end. Good luck!

    • Agree. The marathon has done it’s job: it’s got me out there running again. But for me now, it’s all about being able to run afterwards, too. It’s so good for my mental/physical wellbeing that I am thinking longterm, rather than just about the race. This race will be all about finishing. I can think about other stuff afterwards…
