My own little “running streak” is going well. I don’t know when or why I decided to do this, but I’ve run (at least) 5 miles on alternate days this week.
I did a lovely 6 mile run with Sophie this evening. We took it really easy, as Sophie hadn’t run for over a week. We just chatted about Christmas, and made the route up as we went along. We added bits to our run when we felt things were going fine. I felt very relaxed throughout. This will be, I think, my “easy pace” when I come to increase the length of my longer runs next year.
The details from the runs this week:
On the training front, I have a couple of new (interim) goals. I have entered two half marathons for next year. One in March (13th) and one in April (17th). I realise these will be relatively short complared to the runs I’m going to have to be doing by then (in preparation for the marathon in May), but it’s a start. My most immediate goal is the 10 mile race at the end of January (31st).
On the planning front, it turns out I can’t wear headphones for the Edinburgh marathon (which, I guess, is fair enough!). This is kind of scary, as I reckon I could be running for a good 5 hours… but I’ve never worn headphones for a race before. I generally just chat to whoever’s around me. In fact, I’ve met some really nice people this way. So it’ll be fine. But it means I’ll have to use my blog-recording-idea for my long training runs beforehand, rather than the race itself.
My training fuel today was mostly candyfloss (hence the picture). We had spent the day in Hunstanton (at the Sealife Centre), and I bought a bag of it there at a proper seaside sweet stall. I hadn’t eaten candy floss for about 30 years, and I wasn’t dissapointed. It was awful stuff. Really! But it was fantastic at the same time. Instant sugar rush dissolving on your tongue. What more do you want?
The boys managed 2 or 3 hanfuls each before giving up. I managed 3 or 4.
I have been very very thirsty this evening. I’ve drunk so much water! I think it might be related in some way to the floss thing….
Great runs! I think they should candyfloss at aid stations during races. Candyfloss with caffeine… that would be the perfect combination, haha! Okay, not really, but it’s a fun thought!

What a great training week, especially during holiday season! I almost never wear headphones on race day and it doesn’t seem to bother me even though I usually train with music/podcasts.

Thank you 🙂 It’s actually been easier to train when I’m on holiday, as I haven’t had to get up at silly o’clock to do it! And I agree about the headphnes thing. I actually seem to go into “race mode” and just concentrate on running, which I can’t do at other times. Not sure if I’ll manage it for 5 hours or more, though… we’ll see!

ha! no…. I agree. I had a little bit before I set off on my run. I had a really good run. Case proved! The ideal pre-run snack 😉 (apart from the fact that I could literally feel my teeth dissolving away as I ate it… argh…. horrid stuff!!)
